“eclectic” Collection: Design Process

mind mapping

Mind-mapping is one way to develop a central idea by brainstorming and then showing relationships among pieces of the whole at a beginning stage of fashion design.

The purpose of my mood board is to feel more energetic by creating a vibrant color palette that plays with textures and creates a feeling of softness and funkiness.

Keeping those two terms in mind is step one to creating mind map ideas for this design collection.

inspiration & moodboard

Mood boards are visual summaries of inspirational images, objects, material swatches, trims, or product examples that explain the concept and feeling of your brand, collection, and/or customer.

Mood boards are all about mindset and thought process.

They are used in every creative field before any project is started. You find it in fashion, interior design, movies, photography, and brand designs.

Mood Boards help keep the creative direction in tact and not let the team spiral outward.

Regarding fashion, this goes from materials, filters, color palettes, and overall aesthetics. This allows the elements to speak the same language and not get mixed with something else.

design brief

A design brief provides the background and scope of a project, sets intentions, expectations, and goals. It helps to outline constraints, creative materials, and provides design specs.

For the average fashionista, do ask yourself :: “What is the true purpose of my design or mood board?”

Answering this allows you to move with stronger purpose and clear intentions.
